Carl DeMaio has pulled papers to run for the California State Assembly in the 75th District. DeMaio will hold a formal press conference at his campaign headquarters on Monday, December 11 at 11am. In the meantime DeMaio offers this public statement on his decision:
“San Diegans know I’m a fighter who is willing to speak truth to power no matter the consequence.
As the leader of Reform California, I have led grassroots campaigns for years to block unfair and costly tax hikes and make government more transparent and accountable. But our highly popular citizen reform efforts have been opposed and even derailed by corrupt politicians who preside over a broken system that serves only their special-interest backers, not the people.
I blame both political parties for the mess California is in. California Democrats have terrible policies, but I also see too many of the few remaining California Republican elected officials as either too unwilling or unable to fight back.
The result is we are seeing millions of good Californians make the tough decision to flee the state they once loved. Californians are giving up hope - and they feel like they have no effective voice for them.
That needs to change – and that’s why I’m running!
In the coming weeks I’m excited to share more on a bold plan we have devised and are advancing at Reform California to build a team of reform-minded leaders across the state to force change and restore political balance to our state. I look forward to hearing the feedback from the voters on this plan and inviting them to join our growing movement to REFORM CALIFORNIA!”
