Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office put out a media advisory claiming that Newsom will hold a media stunt with his wife to “highlight California’s family agenda centered around efforts to enrich and empower kids and parents in schools.” (Tweet from Brandon Richards, Newsom’s press aide 8/13/23)
Carl DeMaio, chairman of Reform California, has a simple response:
“Governor Gavin Newsom’s willingness to look straight into a camera and outright lie never ceases to amaze me. After labeling parents 'extremists,' 'anti-LGBT,' and 'racists,' Newsom now wants to pretend that he wants to 'empower' parents!
"Just two weeks ago, Newsom threatened millions in illegal fines against a school district for simply creating a process to allow parental input on controversial curriculum.
"The simple fact is Gavin Newsom is just a school yard bully and his victims are California parents who dare to want to be engaged in what is happening in our schools.
"We call on the media willing to do any real journalism to ask Newsom how he thinks his clear pattern of mistreatment of California parents squares with his claim today that he wants to empower them.”
